QIC signs agreement with National Traffic Safety Committee as silver sponsor for ITMA

Qatar Insurance Company (QIC), the largest insurer in Qatar and the MENA region signed an agreement with National Traffic Safety Committee yesterday to be the silver sponsor of the upcoming International Traffic Medicine Association (ITMA). The 24th World ITMA Congress, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East, will be staged at the Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel. Scheduled to commence from 16th November and hosted by the National Traffic Safety Committee in Doha, the ITMA Congress will bring together scientific and practical contributions from different disciplines such as Medicine, Toxicology, Engineering, Psychology, Public Administration, etc. to interact and discuss ideas for enhancing road safety in the State of Qatar.

During the signing ceremony, which was held at the QIC Headquarters in West Bay, Mr. Salem Khalaf Al Mannai, Deputy Group president & CEO a�� MENA Region and Brigadier Engineer Mr. Mohammad Abdulla Al Maliki, Secretary of the National Committee for Traffic Safety inked the agreement.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Mannai stated, a�?With this important collaboration, we have taken a step further towards our commitment to support Qatar National Road Safety Strategy 2013 -2022 for enhancing road safety in Qatar. As a lead insurer not only in Qatar but across the MENA, we have been supporting similar multidisciplinary forums to increase awareness about saving lives, improving road safety and bringing together practitioners for exchanging ideas and information on the latest issues in this field.a�?

He further added, a�?Road safety is of major concern in Qatar as it places a huge humanitarian burden on individuals, families, communities and the country. Every year around 220 people lose their lives and a further 550 are seriously injured as a result of road accidents. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that by 2020, road traffic injuries will be the third leading cause of disability adjusted years of life lost in the Middle East.a�?

Brigadier Engineer Mohammad Abdulla Al Maliki expressed his appreciation to QIC for supporting the activities initiated by the Ministry of Interior. He added that the sponsorship of the ITMA Congress proves QICa��s commitment to contribute for the wellness of the community.
